Äss Bar

I do not know why it took us so long to go the Äss Bar in Zürich’s Niederdorf, but it might just become a weekly habit.

I had read this yelp review by Dennis M, which had me in stitches, and I knew just where this little store was. The rain yesterday did not deter us from walking there.

First, the name. It’s a play on the verb essen (to eat) which in the simple past form is aß. The subtitle – Frisch von Gestern – means fresh from yesterday.

In this article, you can read how the owners decided to sell day-old cakes, breads, tarts, pastries, salads and sandwiches that the local patisseries would throw out. Not only is it very eco-friendly, but also budget-friendly since the items are quite billig (cheap).

This time we got a slice of Black Forest Cake, a vanilla pastry, and a small loaf of bread for $5. Yes, Äss Bar, we will definitely be back. Now if you could add some chairs and tables, it would be even better!
