If you live in Switzerland and have a tv or a radio (a car radio, too), you must pay a licensing fee no matter how much or how little you use your devices. A radio fee will set you back 169 CHF a year, and tv is 293 CHF for a total of 462 CHF if you have both (tax included).

We are fortunate that our landlords, the ETH, pay this fee for us. Most landlords do not. And yet, we got a sort of a bill the other day in the mail requesting that we take their survey and make a contribution. Billag, the company that collects these fees, has our name, address and a customer number for us as well as a login and password especially for us. I sent a copy to our property manager, and he said that he took care of the matter for us. I certainly hope Billag thinks so!
