Bauschänzli

The weeks are rolling by pretty fast now. Still, we are finding places in our fair city that we wished we had known about earlier.

A friend is coming to visit us for an afternoon while she is on a business trip. She said she’d love to have a beer with us in a Biergarten. “Um.” I said. “That is more of a German thing than a Swiss one.”

That may be so, but we have not only found one nearby, but when my sister and brother-in-law were visiting, we went there three days in a row. We should have known about it earlier, but the weather was not the best then. Now it is finally warm enough to sit outside in short sleeves.

The Bauschänzli is a little island jutting out into the Limmat River. It is part of the original city fortifications. Now it is a great place to sit and have a bite and a sip. There is lots of space and shade with great views.

In the fall there is a big tent over this and it serves as an Oktoberfest place.
