20 Minutes

I’ve been trolling through the blog – This International Life – for a few months now. It’s about two American expats who have lived in Zürich, Munich, Milan and are now in Edinburgh. When I read this post about the differences between the French version of the free commuter newspaper 20 Minutes and the German version, I thought it would be fun to pick up the Geneva version when we were there and compare it to the Zürich version of the same day.

The front pages have the same layout with completely different stories.

Zürich: Lead story about how the strong Swiss Franc is hurting the sex industry

Geneva: Lead story about bribing in the the medical community (I think)

Even the comics pages are different (no Calvin and Hobbes in French!)

Of course, since this IS Switzerland, the lead sports stories are about skiing. Both are stories about Swiss skier Didlier Défago who apparently came in 7th in the Super-G in Vail.

  1. Ha! Glad I’m not the only one who finds comparative 20 Minuten exercises entertaining. 🙂
